The police are planning to impose ‘No helmet, No petrol’ rule in Vijayawada and Guntur. The rule will come into force from Monday in Guntur. City Police Commissioner D. Gautam Sawang, at a programme organised by an NGO on traffic awareness on Sunday, announced that the rule would be implemented in the Commissionerate.

“Orders would be issued to all petrol bunks not to fill petrol, if the bike rider has no headgear. We will impose the rule in a couple of days to minimise casualties during road mishaps,” Mr. Sawang told the media. The Police Commissioner asked the parents not to send their wards on to the roads without helmets. “We will act tough against those who ride bikes without headgear.” Ch. Vijaya Rao, Guntur Urban SP, on Sunday issued orders to the petrol bunk owners to fill petrol only if the bike rider comes with the helmet.
