Hon’ble Minister of State, Independent Charge, Mr. Dharmendra Pradhan flagged off ONGC Mission Everest Project 2017 at an event in New Delhi on 28 March 2017. Complimenting ONGC for a robust selection of a young team for this ‘bold’ initiative, the Minister said, “This may go down as a historic event in the annals of oil industry.” Buoyed by this project, the Minister asked ONGC to explore other such innovative projects, especially in the unique natural ecosystem of Uttarakhand.

Earlier, ONGC CMD Mr. D K Sarraf said that though ONGC has made its mark in drilling kilometers below the Earth’s surface in search of oil, this ONGC Mission Everest is a unique initiative organized under the stewardship of Director (HR) Mr. Desh Deepak Misra. “I salute the courage of these ONGCians to scale the highest point on this Planet, though not professional mountaineers.” Mr. Sarraf said that enterprising efforts like this by corporates will not only enable companies to dream and achieve whatever they set sights on, but also improve teamwork.

In his opening remarks, the architect of this project Director (HR) Mr. D D Misra said that this is the first time that a corporate is sending its team to Mount Everest. “Adventure is in our DNA. Our efforts may succeed or fail. What matters is the spirit to keep trying.” Director (HR) elaborated that a 7-stage process has been used to select and groom the final team for this eco-friendly Mission.

The ONGC Team will start on its Mission in a few days and will approach the Mount Everest from the Nepal side. ONGCReports will keep the readers updated about the Mission on a day-to-day basis.
