PM Narendra Modi to visit Germany

India and Germany are expected to sign pacts to further deepen cooperation in trade, investment and energy, South China Sea apart from looking at ways to step up defence cooperation during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s two-day visit to Berlin starting Monday, an Indian Express report said. German envoy Martin Ney had yesterday said that Narendra Modi and German Chancellor Angela Merkel may also discuss a number of global issues, including that of the South China Sea, China’s Belt and Road initiative and the terrorism threat.

As per the envoy, the issue of India’s Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) bid is also likely to come up. He also said that Germany supports India’s accession to different export control regimes, including the NSG, the Wassenaar Arrangement and Australia Group. Ney said his country stands with India in the fight against terror and also pointed out that Germany has been sharing intelligence with the Indian government. The ambassador, speaking on cooperation in the defence sector, also pointed out that Germany was ready to conclude a government-to-government agreement with India in defence procurement, India Express report further said.
