India’s push for green energy has borne results, with the country crossing the 100 gigawatt (GW) milestone of installed renewable energy capacity. This assumes importance given that India has a total installed power generation capacity of 383.73 GW. While India has been resisting the pressure of declaring a net zero emission goal and calling out nations on their carbon neutral intent announcements, its green energy trajectory has been on an upswing.

“Today India stands at 4th position in the world in terms of installed RE capacity, 5th in solar and 4th in wind in terms of installed capacity,” India’s power ministry said in a statement. Investors’ interest in India’s green economy continues unabated in the backdrop of a growing demand for electricity. India is running the world’s largest clean energy programme. In a reaffirmation of India’s push for green energy sources, solar and wind generation recorded an all-time high of 43.1GW on 27 July.
