Iran has launched over a dozen ballistic missiles targeting at least two bases where US military and oalition forces’ are stationed in Iraq, the Pentagon said on Tuesday.According to Iranian state TV, the attacks were in revenge for the killing of the commander of Iran’s powerful Revolutionary Guards, General Qasem Soleimani, in a US drone strike on Friday, which was ordered by President Donald Trump.
Shortly after the missile attacks, Trump tweeted, “All is well! Missiles launched from Iran at two military bases located in Iraq. Assessment of casualties & damages taking place now. So far, so good! We have the most powerful and well equipped military anywhere in the world, by far! I will be making a statement tomorrow morning.” Officials said President Trump has been briefed and he is monitoring the situation.”We are working on initial battle damage assessments,” Pentagon spokesperson Jonathan Hoffman said.Hoffman said around 5:30 pm on January 7, “Iran launched more than a dozen ballistic missiles against US.military and coalition forces in Iraq”.
