Uttarakhand Congress president Pritam Singh on Tuesday alleged that the law and order situation had turned from bad to worse in the state. Addressing a press conference in Dehradun, Pritam Singh said incidents of loot, dacoity and theft were on the rise. He said only a few days ago in Roorkie, a loot incident had taken place in broad daylight, while incidents of theft were a common occurrence in Dehradun. Pritam Singh also took an opportunity to accuse the state government of patronising the liquor mafia. He said liquor was being smuggled in to Uttarakhand from neighbouring Himachal Pradesh. He asserted that the state government’s position on the excise policy in itself belittled its claims of zero-tolerance for corruption.
