The Kedarnath Yatra in Uttarakhand’s Sonprayag has been suspended due to the ongoing heavy rains in Rudraprayag district, officials announced on Wednesday. Keeping in mind the well-being of the passengers, the administration stopped the passengers at Sonprayag and Gaurikund due to continuous bad weather. Four state roads and 10 link roads have been closed due to debris from the rains. Mandakini and Alaknanda rivers are flooding due to heavy rains, officials said.

Amid heavy rains in Uttarakhand, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday issued an orange alert for July 12. “Orange Alert: Heavy to very heavy rainfall (115.6 to 204.4 mm) is likely to occur over #Uttarakhand and adjoining areas of western Uttar Pradesh on July 12,” the IMD shared in a tweet. ”

Meanwhile, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Tuesday said the state administration is on full alert in view of the warning of heavy rains issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in the region.

Discussing the prudent planning made in the state, CM Dhami said, “Here we have to face common disasters continuously during the rains. Excessive rainfall causes landslides and rise in river levels. We are in high alert mode.” Disaster management personnel and all district administration officials are working. Each one of them has been approached to be prepared to face whatever is happening. Our other organisations are also working on it. NDRF, armed forces and our PWD office are working. We are ready to face whatever is happening and we are in constant touch with them to help people in any situation. ”

Rain continues in Uttarakhand, nine dead

Nine people were killed and 13 injured when debris fell on them near Gangnani on the Gangotri national highway in Uttarakhand on Tuesday, officials said. Incessant heavy rains have almost injured the state infrastructure and some roads, including national highways, have been closed due to regular avalanches, affecting the ongoing ‘Char Dham Yatra’.

The met office has predicted heavy rains on Tuesday and Wednesday and requested the state administration to take adequate precautions.
