Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur on Monday said the issue of taking back excess unused land with the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) would be raised with the Centre as it could be used for meeting expansion needs of Sundernagar town. The issue was raised during the Question Hour in the Assembly by Sundernagar MLA Rakesh Jamwal. He said excess land taken by the BBMB was lying unused, which should be taken back to meet the development needs of Sundernagar town.

Replying to the query, Power Minister Anil Sharma, said there was contradiction in the information furnished by the BBMB authorities and the State Revenue Department. “We will get the matter legally examined to ascertain under what clause we can get this land back as the BBMB has denied having excess land,” he said. The CM said there was a clause in the Land Acquisition Act, if the land given remained unused for more than five years, it could be vested back. “We will take it up with the appropriate authorities so that it can be used for setting up of an industrial area or put to some other use,” he said.
